Youth ambassadors in action

Get Involved

There are lots more ways to get involved and help those who are suffering in the Global Food Crisis.

  • Step one to helping hungry kids is to sign-up to do the 40 Hour Famine. We've got all the info and guides.

  • Step two involves taking action to change the way you live and taking the lead amongst your friends and family in the fight against hunger. Take the initiative to change the world through these actions, ideas and suggestions.

Want to help hungry kids? Here’s what you can do!

Sign up as a Group Leader. If your school, church group, social group, work, or family have already signed up find out who the Group Leader is and join them.

If you don’t want to be part of a 40 Hour Famine group, you can sign up as an individual participant instead. Ask people to support you with a donation for giving up something really important to you for 40 hours (you can only go without food for 8 hours if you’re at primary school).

Want to do more?

There are lots more ways to get involved and help those who are suffering in the Global Food Crisis, besides doing the 40 Hour Famine. Take the initiative to change the world through these actions, ideas and suggestions.

ACT:

  • Do the 40 Hour Famine: 2009 and BITE BACK AT HUNGER.
  • Attend the Hoyts - 40 Hour Famine Film Festival at selected cinemas near you (21-23 August 2009).

LEAD:

  • Take leadership at your school, church or workplace by arranging a presentation on the Global Food Crisis. Organise your local World Vision representative to talk about how we can help transform the world’s poorest families and communities.
  • Talk to your friends and family about whether it’s ethical to buy and sell shares in basic human necessities, like food.
  • Join Vision Generation (VGen) a group of passionate young people who campaign relentlessly and speak out for those who can’t. VGenners believe our generation can truly make poverty history.
  • Join our online community of STIRrers, chat in the blender, share ideas and discuss issues of social justice with like-minded young people from across Australia.
  • Explore the issues of the Global Food Crisis with your Church Youth Group by working through five great Bible Studies by Mark Sayers, author of ‘Trouble with Paris'.

CHANGE:

  • Consume less and reduce your environmental footprint on the earth!
  • Be a fair trader. If you can’t find Australian-made products, buy fair trade instead to make sure all producers get a fair go.
  • Think about travel. Carpool, train it or ride your bike. Or take the bus instead of driving or getting someone to drive you. Or just walk! Consider ways you can decrease your dependence on oil and your carbon footprint.
  • Chat to your friends, family, teachers and/or co-workers about climate solutions you can achieve at your school, workplace and/or in your own home. Climate change is not just a problem for developing countries – it’s a global problem.
