Make it fun and do it with friends! It's a good idea to spend the Famine Weekend with your Group, and for the whole group to do the same thing.

Here are some ideas...

  • Hire DVDs and have a big sleepover on Saturday night in the school hall. Then end the Famine with a BBQ or picnic lunch to celebrate.
  • Organise a Famine launch party or BBQ on the Friday morning instead of class.
  • Hold a record breaking-a-thon: small car stuff-a-thon, dance-a-thon, etc.
  • Have a celebration on Monday morning at school (pancake breakfast or lunchtime BBQ).
  • Hold a school fair during school lunchtime, where each class has its own stall.
  • Ask students to bring in an extra gold coin with their lunch order leading up to the Famine weekend.
  • Set goals for each level of the fundraising target. For every $100 raised, get a teacher to wear a funny hat for the day or have their hair sprayed in house colours.
  • Have a 40 Hour Famine tin in the canteen for small change.
  • Have a 5-cent-coin collection.
  • Hold a Casual Clothes Day.

The 40 Hour Famine is a community education and fundraising initiative of World Vision Australia.
