Background
The Lebanese people are rebuilding their fractured country
after years of conflict and civil war. This process is slow
and has left the country in considerable debt. Reconstruction
has been made more difficult by sporadic violence. Trade,
banking and tourism have begun to recover, but one fifth of
Lebanon's 4 million people are unemployed. Basic services
like health, education, sanitation and housing are still not
available to everyone.
World Vision Australia is working with the communities in Lebanon. Below are examples of funded projects:
Area Development Program (ADP)
The main focus of the ADP is to work with communities to
provide basic health care, access to safe water and sanitation
facilities. Children are also supported to attend school.
Vocational Training
Young people are participating in vocational and life skills
training. There is a particular focus on health-related courses
to ensure that there are adequate numbers of nurses and other
health professionals in the local communities.
Ain Remanhe Social Centre
Access to safe water, sanitation, healthcare and educational
support are the main components of this project.
