How a sponsored child and their community benefit
When you sponsor a child, you help to provide the basics like enough food to eat, clean water to drink, basic healthcare and the chance to go to school. But more than that, the benefits of child sponsorship extend to the whole community. Your sponsor a child, your support allows us to work with the child’s community on long-term community development projects. Your contribution of $43 a month is pooled with that of other sponsors to fund essential development projects that will benefit children, families and communities for generations. Any contribution in excess of the standard monthly rate will be used by us in your sponsored child’s community on long term development projects or to help other sponsored communities in need.
The work that goes on in each community varies according to its specific needs. As life for your sponsored child and their community improves, you can follow their progress with reports and updates from World Vision.

Healthcare
World Vision works to improve the health of children and families. The community helps build hospitals and clinics. Medicines, vaccinations and health education are provided.
The chance to learn
Children have the chance to go to school to learn to read and write so they have greater opportunities in life.
Clean Water
The community works with World Vision to drill boreholes or dig wells so families have clean water for drinking, cooking and washing.
Enough Food
World Vision supplies seeds, tools and helps coordinate training in farming techniques. This helps families grow more food, so children have a nutritious diet.
A reliable income
Vocational training helps families learn new skills, enabling them to better provide for their children. As well as work in these areas, and depending on the community’s needs, other activities may include HIV and AIDS awareness training and disaster preparedness.
World Vision works closely with the communities, from identifying the needs to supplying labour and materials. Projects - such as improving water supply, building health clinics and schools - bring about long-term changes, which make the biggest difference to children’s lives.
To address the long term causes of poverty World Vision works with every sector of the Australian community. This includes educating young Australians, motivating individuals and community groups to take action, working with our government to improve the quantity and quality of Australia's aid program and partnering with businesses to reduce poverty in our region. Up to 5% of your monthly sponsorship payment will be used in Australia to support these activities so that together we can effectively fight poverty's causes.
